2nd day, evening Brockport

i posted a few things to my instagram and youtube.

my instagram hunneymandc

the tugboat is very popular on youtube for some reason.   the algorithm must be pushing it.    most views i've gotten.   well over 700 last time i looked.

got my camping spot by the welcome center downtown.
currently sitting by the canal in my mini chair, writing this blog.   will go over to the bar for buffalo chicken salad and a beer.   going to walk over in my crocs, my bike shoes are still soaked

the main reason i stopped was the grit coating my bike's drivetrain, it was making horrible crunching sounds.   they didn't have a garden hose here at the welcome center, but the nice older gentleman working there is going to donate one now.   he was shocked at how caked my bike was and he mentioned other bicyclists coming through had asked for a place to wash their bikes.
the welcome center has a bathroom open 6a.m-9p.m. with a shower.   i already used the shower.   nice and warm.   glorious.   crocs ftw!  (for the win)   the floor was a little yucky, not horribly, just glad i wasn't barefoot.

i've got the tent set up and i've got my rain pants and towel drying on it.   looks like a yard sale, but that's touring life.

in the screenshot above, i'm the blue dot

my folding keyboard is nice and small , but you can't type on your lap while sitting in a chair with it.   so i cut a piece of coroplast sign board for rigidity.   super lightweight.   makes the chair worth bringing.   i'm enjoying the cool breeze by the canal and the walkers are starting to go by across the way.

I also setup the chair earlier today under a bridge when i was waiting out a heavy downpour.   very comfortable.    glad i brought it.   and the leg that came loose was easily fixed.   long live the kilosgear chair!

back to Brockport
i don't think this would be a good camping spot unless you have my earbud/single ear muff setup for sleeping.   being downtown, and the bridge 50 yards away, it's going to be noisy.

but....i didn't feel like biking 2 miles out of the way to the Best Western, and I definitely didn't want to deal with the wet canal trail anymore today.   by the time i get moving tomorrow, it'll have dried out a lot.    i'll probably just bike through Rochester tomorrow and camp at a lock between Rochester and Syracuse.    Saturday, i'll shoot for Syracuse but it may be too far.   i might have to settle for the last lock site to the west of Syracuse.

i still did some tweaking of the saddle position.   basically ended up where i was yesterday, just with the seatpost lower.   Progress though.   a slightly sore butt is a great way to find the most comfortable position.  Immediate feedback.  it's getting better and not worse, so that's the important thing.

Leather Brooks saddles are supposedly the most comfortable, but I have to get my weight down to 225 first.   they max out at 100 kilos or 220lbs.    225 should be close enough, they always have a fudge factor on weight limits.  The break in on those suck though, but once broken in, you don't even need to wear cycling shorts (supposedly).  Just raw dog it!  Lol

as i leave town tomorrow i'll swing by the brockport lowes to get a new usb battery charger/ power station.   crisis averted.   with the nearby power charger at my campsite, i can charge up my phone and bike computer  tonight.

beer and food are calling to me.  ttyl  (talk to you later).   also drank 2 ipa's and ate some pretzel bites before this buffalo chicken salard.
 also doing laundry tonight

First Bikepacking Trip

My kingdom for a pair of scissors!   More on that later.   Actually I'm ordering these fiskar ones to keep in my tool bag.     I trust myself with scissors but not a small knife in the middle of nowhere out in the woods.      https://a.co/d/6AycWwH       The trip was fun and a success.   i didn't forget anything (see previous blog packing list); i've just realized having a small pair of scissors would be very useful for trimming tire plugs and opening stubborn dehydrated meal bags. Sunday night I camped in the truck's GFC camper at one of my favorite spots near where my bike trip was going to start.   I wanted to get an early start Monday morning which is easier when you're just a 15 minute drive away vs 3 hours.    And no I'm not posting online where my preferred camping spot is because it's mine, ALL MINE!!!!.    jk, but yeah, on principle it's silly to list your favorite sp...

Overland Expo East 2024 Saturday and Sunday

Saturday morning no 10 am seminar this morning, but i did wake up earlier than i expected, so i rode down for the 9a.m. opening before the crowds of day visitors swarmed. The Bronco guys turned their music off around 10-10:30 last night, but they were "drunk" loud. I'm sure they thought they were being quiet when talking around their little propane campfire, but drinking makes you deaf. Anyway, I ran into Jeff mid morning while walking around. I bought another 6 pack of roperollers from the Rollercam booth. And finally, I wrapped up the morning by getting a ridiculously overpriced burger after waiting in line 15 minutes and waiting another 20 for the burger to be ready. Burger was maybe ⅓ lb size? just cheese, no toppings, nothing else and it was $20. with a coke and tip closer to $30. should have just gone back to my truck to eat lunch, or better yet, gone to the taco or bbq trucks. NEVER get the fresh burger from a food truck when the line is long. T...

2025 end of May Moose River Plains camping

Went camping at Moose River Plains again.   Drove up Monday (Memorial Day), left Friday.   Nothing exciting really, just journaling for when I'm too old to go anymore 😢   Monday  Jeff and I were able to grab our favorite site.   You have to drive over Wakely dam and then bang a right and camp up on the little hill by Cedar River Flow.     That site seems to always have wind, so it's not good for late Fall camping (too cold), but early Summer, the wind helps to keep most of the bugs away.    You don't really get a view of the water, but you can hear it as it goes through the dam.    I only had to wear my mosquito net over my head around dusk when the bugs really came out strong.    Our Thermocell insect repellers seemed to work pretty well too when it wasn't windy.   It's a short walk to the dam to take photos. First night we were there, this odd character walked over around 9:30 p.m. in the d...
