2023 April 1st Canyonlands

apr 1st Saturday Canyonlands National Park.

had a easy morning.   did some reorganizing, and made eggs and bacon.   called Jacqui around 9a.m. her time before she went to spend the day w Maureen.

got packed up by the agreed time of 10a.m. and  then we did the 30 min drive to Canyonlands.   I like the views more than the Arches.   but the hike to Delicate Arches was probably better.   we lucked out with a gorgeous day, really far visibility, almost no haze that I can see.   a few clouds here or there, but it’s just clear sky.

such a change from the snow and cold up in Wyoming and Montana.

I guess one thing I’ll say,  I can’t see Utah ever getting very developed, the land is just too pristine and too severe to add more houses everywhere.   Not a bad thing.

apr 1st sat evening

we’re camped somewhere outside Green River UTAH on BLM land. i’m the orange arrow near the red i-70 line, which is at least ½ mile away.   wind is coming from the south, so can’t hear anything.

we’ll be taking mostly backroads to Goblin.   it’s a very nice dirt road though.   we tried to take a detour on a gnarlier bit for more remote camping, but….

i was more nervous than jeff, but looking at it I thought the truck could do it.   So I went first, jeff could winch me back if I got stuck.   I was worried jeff’s van might high center.   it was like a very short hill. like a peak of 3ft, but it was only 8-10feet long.     The Ranger went over fine in 4 low.   I didn’t scrape anything.   Jeff got hung up right behind his driver side door.  It knocked his grey water sewer pipe loose.    Jeff wasn’t upset or anything.   he oddly seemed happy.   i think he’s been looking for excuse to lift his van, and change the plumbing (aka did it on purpose to justify spending more $ on his van, lol)

we backtracked and found a flat spot near a tiny remote airport.   he had some good duct tape, and some flex seal tape, as well as a splint to patch it, should hold, and he won’t have to get it fixed until he’s back in Mass.   he just might drip a bit after taking showers.

Very proud of the Ranger,  to be fair though, my truck is lifted, jeff’s 4x4 sprinter isn’t.

and i have a shorter wheelbase of 126” and jeff’s van is 144”.   just glad to know my more spartan setup has one pro in its column

on the other hand I took a quick shower while jeff was patching his van.    No shower tent just in my swim trunks in sunny 60 degree weather but very strong wind.   The van’s shower wins on that experience.    I quickly moved my geyser shower pump so the truck blocked the wind as much as possible.   I’m a delicate flower.

other than that, just make some rustic camp spaghetti to use up my last bison patty, and Jeff is in his van chatting with his RIT gaming buddies.

going to read and turn in.
